Spring 2 - Ancient Egypt

History 

For this half term, we will be looking at the ancient civilisation of Egypt. We will be particularly paying attention to how the Egyptians have contributed towards modern civilisation. We will explore a range of artifacts and try to unravel some of the mysteries the enigmatic Egyptians left behind as their legacy.

Maths

 

In spring 2, we have been looking at decimal numbers and their equivalent fractions. We then moved on to rounding decimal numbers to whole number, one decimal place and two decimal places. The sheet below can be used to further support children in understanding this at home. 

English

 

We will be reading the book, Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. This text in centred around a young boy who desperately needs a new heart. Cameron has the choice between waiting for. Human transplant to become available and risk dying, or he can opt for a new experimental procedure that involves having the heart of a pig transplanted into him. 

To begin this term, we created a balanced argument looking at the advantages and disadvantages for Cameron having the procedure. We will be moving onto writing a persuasive letter, which will attempt to persuade the doctor who delivers the procedure to choose Cameron over another patient.

Science

 

For this half term, we will be learning about the circulatory system. 

PSHE

 

For spring 2, the police continued their visits to Sparken Hill, introducing the children to road safety and the dangers of drink driving as well as looking at the Criminal Justice System which involved a mock courtroom drama. The children found the interactive aspects very engaging!

 

Art

 

For this half term, we will be creating an Egyptian canopic jar.

Religious Education

 

For spring 2, we will be revisiting Christianity, looking at the role the bible plays in the life of Christians, visiting a church and looking at important festivals and dates in the Christain calendar and their purpose in worship. 

 

For PE this term, the children have been learning table tennis and netball.
