- Bassetlaw Museum - Roman Day
A fantastic day at the Bassetlaw Museum… We were lucky enough to have 3 different workshops based on our topic of ‘Romans’s’. We started off with an archaeological dig; we excavated some Roman coins, pottery, tessera, brooches and other relics. We used equipment archaeologists would use and answered questions on who we thought might have used them, what period of the Roman times they were from or where they might have been found! Then we created our own Roman pots; we learnt skills on how to use clay and the tools properly and how much the Romans relied on pottery.
We got to look round parts of the museum and look at Roman artefacts & even skeleton’s found in Worksop!
Then in the afternoon, we recreated a Roman wedding, it was very interesting to see how the ceremony and celebrations are still used today! Also, to how different things would have been for marriages!
