Experience Day - Castle & Dragons.
Our Castles and Dragon Day, across Key Stage One was a fantastic day with some amazing work produced by the children: During the day children moved from class to class to participate in a range of activities from making crowns, eating a banquet fit for a king, learning to be a jester: using the skills of juggling. They learnt about the significance of crests and designed and made their own shield. Finally, they spent time with an artist learning how to draw dragons.
Maths -Partitioning Tens & Ones
In maths, we have been exploring the Part-Whole Model in terms of tens and ones. Reinforcing the concept by working practically with dienes
Science - Investigation.
In science this week we looked at the material sand
Design Technology - Making a Castle.
We have had lots of fun designing and making our very own castles! Before we made our castles, we researched different types of castles and thought about important features such as the battlements, drawbridge and arrow slits. We then designed our own castle and worked in pairs to make them. We painted our castles and tried hard to create a brickwork effect.
Science - Materials
In science this term, we have been exploring materials and their properties. Initally, we went on a material hunt around school. We found an an assortment of materials in everyday objects, in and around school.
English - Role Play
This week we have been retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have created a story map go enable us to recall the main events. We also worked on our actions and emotions from the characters perspective.
Maths - Counting to 10.
In Maths, the Year 1s have been counting objects to 10 and matching quantity to the relevant digit. We have looked at strategies to count quantities accurately, for example, putting cubes in a line and touching each cube as we count along.
Transition
We've had a wonderful day. Meeting one another, playing games, reading stories, hunting for natural materials and making new friends.
