Spring 1 - Extreme Earth
Extreme Earth
This half term our topic is Extreme Earth. We will begin our learning by developing our understanding of the structure of the Earth, including the movement of tectonic plates. This will help us to understand how volcanoes are formed and why earthquakes happen. We will be using Google maps to locate volcanoes and earthquakes across the world and we will learn about the effects these have on people living near them.
Please have a look at our knowledge organised below for more information and detail on what our pupils will be learning. We look forward to sharing all their work with you over the half term!
Extreme Earth Knowledge Organiser
English
For spring 1, we have studied a range of non-chronological reports on space. Next, we have collated a range of information on our solar system and organised it into our own factual report. I am thrilled with how much knowledge the children have learned about our solar system in such a small time period.
Maths
For spring 1, we have been learning about fractions, short multiplication and short division.
Below are some posters to further help your children develop these skills if you would like to test them at home.
Science
For spring 1, we have been studying space, particularly the relationships between the Sun, Earth and Moon. Below are some examples of what the children have learnt.
Religious Education
For spring 1, we have been learning about different spiritual leaders and what qualities made them so appealing to followers of different faiths.
Design Technology
For spring 1, we have been using a digital app called Tinkercad to design a solution to flooding issues.

PSHE
For spring 1, we have been fortunate to have Worksop’s police force come into school for a series of lessons looking at ways to build a safer and better community.

In honour of Children’s Mental Health Week, we have a new addition to our class. This is Sir Worries-alot - his role is to absorb all the negative emotions a child might want to get rid of.
In class we are reading...
This half term we are reading a series of books which each tell a terrifying and thrilling story from history, through the eyes of a kid who lived to tell the tale.
