Amazing Africa

Our topic of Africa is taught cross curricular... in particular in English this is through a range of different literature based on the animals, life in certain counties of Africa or a focus on current environmental issues happening in Africa. We will write character descriptions, newspapers, diary extracts, holiday brochures, non-chronological reports and short stories. In Maths we will be covering place value and addition & subtraction. The children will explore animals including humans during our science lessons. This includes teeth, animal food types, chains and webs, skeletons and muscles.

In the wider curriculum pupils will get active in PE through Handball and Tag Rugby. In Autumn 2 we will cover dance and real P.E.

Geography lessons will cover human and physical geography including looking at land use, climate zones etc. In history we will look at inspirational leaders and movements that happened in Africa. In art we will cover famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Steven Brown. In D&T we will make our own tote bags using original African fabric & prints.
