Virtual inter school athletics competition

October 2020

This year with COVID restrictions things are having to be organised a little differently. So Kate our SGO for Bassetlaw has got together with all the other SGOs from our area and organised a inter school virtual competition.
Basically each year group had a chance to take part and they all had to complete 5 different athletic events.
standing long jump, agility run, speed bounce, shuttle run and chest push. It was differentiated for each year group, for example in the agility activity year 5/6 had a bigger area to cover. In the best push they had a heavier ball.
Each event had a scoring system based on speed or distance and children were given points according to their ability. At the end all the points were added up for each year group and an average score was given. We then entered these onto the competition score sheet and sent them all to Kate at Retford Oaks.
We are really pleased to announce that every single child in the whole school from year 1 to year 6 took part in this competition.

I would just like to say how proud I am of our pupils, they were fantastic and lead their activities incredibly well.

Girls League Match V St Anne’s

Tuesday 10th March

After a mix up of where the match was supposed to be played we eventually kicked off at 4.00pm. The pitch wasn’t good at all and made playing conditions really hard for our girls. They had most of the possession but just couldn’t score. The final score was 0-0.

Tag Rugby Match V Outwood Portland

Monday 9th March

Today we played a friendly Tag Rugby Match against Portland year 7 pupils. It was great to see some of our  pupils come back to play against us too.

It was a great match and by the end all of our team managed to score at least one try each. The whole team showed teamwork, communication, passion and respect. Well done everyone.

The final score was SHA 17 V  Portland 11

In the second half it was end to end and each team scored 13 trys, Thomas captained the team well and everyone had the same amount of time on the pitch.

The final score was 24 - 20 to us.

Sheffield United Football Festival

Wednesday 26th February

Today we took 15 pupils to a football festival organised by SUFC. The pupils all attend football club regularly and for most of them this was the first time they had ever played against another school and represented our school.

We split into 2 teams and then each team played 12 matches, each match was 10 minutes with 2 minute break between games. Basically it was non stop football and all of our pupils played really well, they showed true school games values #respect #teamwork #honesty #passion #determination #self-belief.

I was incredibly proud of every single one of them, the weather conditions were awful, we had all 4 seasons in one afternoon, rain, sleet, snow, wind and then some sunshine.

Well done team SparkenHill #TeamWorkMakesTheDreamWork

Girls League Match V StJosephs

Tuesday 25th February 2020

Tonight the girls played another league match in horrendous weather conditions against St Joseph’s school in Retford.

Our Girls started really well, played for each other and created plenty of opportunities. Cassidy scored the opening goal and then Miley scored our 2nd from a superb shot across the area.

Cassidy then scored again from a corner to make it 3-0 at halftime.

In the 2nd half Chloe made some amazing saves in goal and kept us in the game. With 1 minute to go St Joseph’s   scored after a goal mouth scramble and the ball deflected in off an attackers leg.

Final score was 3-1to SparkenHill.

player of the match was Carlie Spencer.

Boys league football match V Holy Family

Thursday 13th February

The boys played their first match after the winter break today. They started well and by half time were 2 - 0  up. However silly defensive mistakes let Holy Family back into the game and it was 2-2 within 5 minutes of the restart.

Then a spectacular free kick from a deliberate hand ball took Holy Family into the lead and that was the final score.

Girls League Football Match V Norbridge

Monday 10th February

Today our Girls  team played their league match versus Norbridge Academy in very cold and windy conditions.

Our Girls have grown in confidence over the past year and are enjoying playing and working as a team. They all know their positions and are now showing greater match awareness, brilliant teamwork and self belief.

Chloe was  superb in goal and commanded her area. Sophie and Carlie defended and are starting to create a good partnership. Jessy pushed up to midfield to join Miley and  we had Amelia and Cassidy playing on the wings.

Lilly started as a sub but came on at half time to replace Cassidy and made some crucial tackles.

Miley had a few chances to open the scoring in the first half but the Norbridge goal keeper made some great saves to keep half-time 0-0.

In the second half Norbridge were the stronger team for the first 5 minutes, they were winning every  50/50 ball and dominated midfield. Then we started to settle again and chances were created, Miley sneaked aball over the line in a goal mouth scramble . Norbridge didn’t give up and equalised after a shot was rebounded out by  defender and as Chloe went to dive on the ball their striker got there seconds before and hit the Ball passed Chloe into the net.

With 5 minutes left of the game Jessy won the ball in midfield and passed it to Amelia, then she passed it wide to Miley who was unmarked, Miley was 1 on 1 with the goal keeper and this time she slotted the ball into the left hand corner of the goal. The final score was 2-1 to SparkenHill and Jessy was chosen as the player of the match for her impressive first match in midfield. Well done Girls and big thank you to all the parents and pupils and staff that came to support us today.#TeamWorkMakesTheDreamWork

Girls football match V Prospect

Friday 31st January

Tonight we finally managed to play our league game against Prospect Hill. It was a really good game with both teams competing well. By half time it was 0-0, a quick change of goalkeeper and the 2nd half was underway. Prospect scored after a breakaway from a tackle and their player was one v one with Carlie in our goal and even though she made a save the player reacted quickly and hit the rebound straight into the net. Prospect then sealed the win after a long throw in landed right in front of our goal line and unfortunately our defender knocked it over the line whilst trying to clear the Ball away. Final score was 2-0 win for Prospect Hill.

Well done girls you gave 100% and showed great team spirit.

Year 3&4 HandBall Festival

Thursday 30th January

Today Mr Nicholson took boys and girls from both year 3&4 to a Handball festival at Retford Oaks Academy. The morning was organised by our SGO and was a perfect way for our pupils to practice their skills and drills learnt during their PE lessons back in September.

They carouseled around different activities that were related to the game and at the end of the session they played some friendly matches against the other schools that attended.

year 3 & 4 DanceFestival

15th and 28th January

Today our dancers  from year 3 & 4 took part in the second part of the annual dance Festival which is held at Retford Oaks. Part 1 the children were taught a routine by the student  dance leaders at the Oaks. They then had 2 weeks to rehearse  the routine back at school. Big shout out to Miss Edwards for giving up her lunchtimes to rehearse with the pupils.

Then today part 2 they went back to the Oaks and had a rehearsal with all of the other schools, finally a performance In front of all their parents and families.

The theme this year was pop icons of the 80’s and our school were given the Spice Girls. Their routine was amazing and they all performed with confidence and self belief and above all a big smile on their face.

well done 👍 We are all really proud of you.

Year 5&6 Dodge Ball Festival

Thursday 23rd January 2020

Today we took 15 pupils from year 5&6 to Retford Oaks to take part in this event. With us being one of the largest  schools in the partnership it’s always hard to make sure the same pupils don’t attend every event. With this in mind we asked all the pupils in year 5&6 that haven’t already represented school if they would like to go. They all said yes and off we went in the minibus to Retford Oaks. To start with they all did a carousel of different activities that were related to dodge ball, catching, throwing, dodging, diving, jumping to name a few.

After this they all played in lots of different games against some of the other schools. Everyone had a great time and feel much more comfortable and positive about joining in with other sports and activities we have at school.
