In English we are reading the book ‘Street Child’. The first piece of work we are are writing is a diary entry focussing on Jim’s view of the events leading up to entering the Workhouse and his first few days experiencing life away from his family.
As part of National Poetry Day, we had the opportunity to take part in a live lesson with poet Laura Mucha. The pupils helped Laura create a poem ‘What do you think counts?’
As we continue to read Street Child, we are beginning to understand how Jim felt in the Workhouse. The pupils are writing a balanced argument, giving reasons why Jim should stay and reasons why he should run away.
