Autumn 1 - Industrial Revolution
‘Industrial Revolution’ describes the transition from a society based on hand manufacturing and human or animal power, to a society based on machinery. The Industrial Revolution began in Britain around 1760, but really took off around the 1840s. During this topic pupils will understand how the Industrial revolution had a transformative effect on not only their local area but the world.
During this topic our main reading text will be Street child by Berlie Doherty, following the life of Jim Jarvis whose mother dies and he is left an orphan in London before being taken to the work house.
