Simplifying fractions

We started working out how to simplify fractions and seeing how they are then equivalent fractions. We practised on our tables first and tomorrow we will work in our Power maths book.

Area

Today we have been looking at area and we know that area is the amount of space inside a shape. We have been using counters to measure inside shapes. We were also challenged with ‘I can fit more inside a shape than around it’ so we were testing it out using counters to see if it was always true, sometime true or never true.

Dividing with remainders

Today we looked at dividing with remainders. We used the part whole model to help split the whole number up to make it easier to divide and find the remainder.

Dividing 2 digits by 1 digit

Dividing 2 digits by 1 digit

In our first lesson, we looked at a strategy which involved the part whole model and base ten. We had lots of practised on the tables with the equipment.

Multiplying 3 digits by 1 digit

We completed a few calculations as a class and then we were able to choose our own level depending on how confident we felt.  We have done really well and understood how to multiply by 3 digits by 1 digit!

Perimeter

In our lesson last time we looked at perimeter in a rectangle. In today's lesson we were working out the perimeter in a rectilinear shape.
