Anderson Shelters

This half term to link design technology to our class topic of WW2 we are going to be making models of Anderson shelters.

Today we experimented with ways of strengthening a piece of card. This was to find the best way to make the roof for the Anderson shelters. Below we see groups working together, some designs in use and two of our most successful groups who managed to get a whopping 2.8KG and 2.3KG respectively on their card bridges before collapsing.

The class discovered that triangles make strong structures and that making the roof corrugated was the way forward.
