Welcome to Year 5

During the Spring term we will travel back through a time portal to study the life and times of the Viking period.  We shall also be looking at the writings of the author Cressida Cowell who wrote the 'How to train your Dragon' series of books.

 

Homework will be given out every Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. The homework will be a takeaway menu whereby the children can choose from a range of different homework styles such as Maths and English or if they want to be creative they can create a piece of art or a model. Children also need to remember to do their spelling and times table tasks in the back of their books ready for testing the following Friday.

 

The children need to be reading at home regularly.

Furthermore, children have been introduced to a NEW reading system called ACCELERATED READING. Each child has been tested on their comprehension skills and has been allocated a number band to choose from. Children are responsible for reading at school, at home and take regular reading tests using Ipads at school  to check their comprehension of the books they have read before changing their books.

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO READ AT HOME!

 

Helping at home with Maths: ROCK STARS!

 

Each child has been allocated a login name and password to practice their times tables at home and at school.

Pupils are tested once a week.

PLEASE TEST THEM AT HOME TOO!

 

PE is every Monday morning. This term Blue 1 will be doing gymnastics. They will need their Sparken Hill school PE kit for each lesson.
