At Sparken Hill Academy, we are committed to helping every one of our pupils to achieve their best in PE & School Sport. We aim to ensure success for all through a comprehensive, well thought out programme of Physical Education, School Sport and Health and Well-Being. The documents/section below provide more details and examples of this programme.
At Sparken Hill Academy we teach a two year curriculum model. This ensures pupils get the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and sports, whilst covering all of the national curriculum objectives.
Visit the class pages to see more information on curriculum PE.
To support the development of PE and School Sport we engage with a variety of partners locally and nationally. Two of our national partners are School Games and the Youth Sports Trust.
The School Games inspires young people to be physically active for life through positive experiences of daily activity and competition. At Sparken Hill Academy we follow the school games values and are currently a gold mark school.
The Youth Sport Trust is the UK’s leading charity improving every young person’s education and development through sport and play. Working with them helps empower young people to achieve their own personal best. We are currently a Platinum Mark school.

The PE and sport premium defines the £320 million of government funding provided to primary schools to support them with making sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered through their core budgets.
Into its tenth year, the Primary PE and Sport Premium supports schools to ensure equal access, support all pupils to be active for 60 minutes a day and ensure the delivery of two hours of quality PE for all pupils.

Thursday from 9.15-12.15
Once again we are working in partnership with Worksop College and Superswimmers swim school to provide our school swimming lessons. Pupils will swim in groups of 15 with a ratio of 1:5 maximum with a swimming instructor. We employ 3 swimming teachers who are based in the pool with the pupils and 2 members of staff who are on poolside.
SWIMMING IS A COMPULSORY PART OF THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM.
We understand that some children might be apprehensive and this is taken into consideration during the lessons. If parents have any concerns or worries then they are more than welcome to contact Mrs Paton and she will arrange for you to accompany your child each week until they feel more confident.
Pupils will get the first opportunity to go swimming in year 3 and again in year 4. Our aim is that by the end of year 4 every child can swim 25m in at least two different strokes and has also completed a water safety assessment program.
We ask parents to provide a big ( supermarket style) bag for life with your child’s name on. Then children wear their swimming costume underneath their PE kit on their swimming day. A towel and underwear in the bag for life, then once at the pool all your child’s clothes go into the bag including shoes and socks and that way nothing gets lost.
