Spring 2- Ancient Egyptians

Class Debate

Tomb Raiders

 

This half term our topic is Tomb Raiders. We will try to answer the question; how has the legacy of Ancient Egyptians influenced our modern society? We will look at the different roles their people undertook in society, try and explain how the mummification process works, find out about pharaohs such as Tutankhamen.

 

In English we will be reading the text ‘Pig Heart Boy’ and writing balances arguments and persuasive letters. 
 

in Maths we will be again working towards SATs, covering a range of arithmetic and reasoning questions.

 

Across the wider curriculum we will look at the Circulatory System in Science, take part in Table Tennis and Netball in PR, sketch and make Canopic Jars in Art, looks at what matters to Christians in RE, find out what makes up a persons identify in PHSE and much more.

World Book Day - We had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day. We shared some of our favourite books, made some new book marks and spent time writing our very own comics!

Our Class Book

English 

We will be reading the book, Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. This text in centred around a young boy who desperately needs a new heart. Cameron has the choice between waiting for. Human transplant to become available and risk dying, or he can opt for a new experimental procedure that involves having the heart of a pig transplanted into him. 

To begin this term, we created a balanced argument looking at the advantages and disadvantages for Cameron having the procedure. We will be moving onto writing a persuasive letter, which will attempt to persuade the doctor who delivers the procedure to choose Cameron over another patient.

Art - We’ve started our unit of work by sketching canopic jars. We practised our sketching skills( such as cross hatching, stippling and scumbling) first before then applying them to our sketches.

Science

Science - in. Our science lessons this half term we are learning about the circulatory system. The circulatory system is a network within the body that consists of blood, blood vessels, and the heart. It supplies tissues in the body with nutrients and oxygen, and also transports hormones and removes waste products that the body doesn't need.

Maths - We’ve enjoyed practising our arithmetic skills through some outdoor orienteering in the sunshine!
