2026
Forest Games 2026
We were lucky enough to be asked to go on this trip again after other schools refused their places. So instead of 10 pupils we were asked to bring 13 so a win all round for our students.
Well what an absolutely brilliant day we had, scavenger hunt, high nets, lunch, bush craft, frisbee golf and archery.
By the end of the day we had 13 very tired year 3&4 pupils but what an adventure they had been on.
Dynamos county cricket finals
Tuesday 30th June
Incredibly proud of our Girls cricketers today at the county finals. The first time the Girls have ever qualified for this and into the top 12 schools in Bassetlaw.
They started really well winning their first 2 games easily against Broxtowe and Mansfield schools. They then played the eventual overall winners, a really good game, great teamwork and sportsmanship from both sides. We lost by only 6 runs, so a very close game. We then played a playoff game for 5th place which we won comfortably too.
So in the end we were 5th out of 12 qualifying schools and 5th best in the whole of Nottinghamshire.
Well done girls 🏏
Year 6 transition event at Sherwood pines
Wednesday 17th June
This was the first time we have been to this event organised by the district SGO’s and it was absolutely amazing.
The idea was to Crete an environment where the children could mix with other schools and make new friends and try different things, new activities and workshops. They started the day going for a walk in the beautiful setting of the woods and forest with another school. Within minutes new friends had been made and lots of interaction between the schools.
Then we were asked to do some den building and again mix with other schools and create our own dens. See the pictures below 👇.
Next was a healthy eating workshop where we tasted lots of different foods and snacks and talked about a healthy diet.
A quick play on the playground area and then a classroom based Workshop on feelings, emotions and thoughts on moving to secondary school and learning some new strategies on how we can cope with some of them.
A really great day and to finish a quote from Thomas in Blue 5 “ It’s not about the experience it’s about the friends you make along the way”.
Charlie Blue 5 “ This is the best day ever and I’ve made lots of new friends”.
Year 3&4 Football Festival
Friday 12th June
Today we took 25 boys from years 3&4 to a non competitive football festival at Retford Oaks. The boys split into 2 groups and then moved around 8 different activities all related to skills needed and used in ⚽️ football.
From dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, interception and above all teamwork.
Bassetlaw schools orienteering competition
Friday 5th June
Wow! What an amazing afternoon we had today at the Orienteering competition. We were the last school to take part and therefore we knew that we could take our time listening to instructions and advice about the best way to navigate the course. We were told that the highest score so far was 170/200 and it was a harder course this year. No pressure then !
Anyway after discussing which route to take and getting the stopwatches, controllers and maps we were ready to start. Each pair had to find 20 different markers which were placed around the course. They had 20 minutes to do this and for every marker they found they would receive 10 points. As they reached each check point on the map the electronic tag they were wearing on their finger would beep and that then indicated that they had been there.
Our first pair set off and then the other 5 went at 1 minute intervals.
Archie and Freddie were first to come back and they still had 3.5 minutes left on their clock. However once the data was checked they had missed 1 of the points and therefore got 190 points, the best today and first place.
Next Eva and James came back and they had found all the points and had 30 seconds to spare, this meant they were now on 200 points and first place pushing Archie and Freddie into 2nd.
Harbour and Chase got 190 points too but only had 10 seconds left so were 3rd, Isabela and Lauren were 4th with 180 points then Dominic and Jayton were 9th and Daisy and Bentley were 20th.
We had the best overall scores so won the Team plaque and also won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals.
what an amazing achievement by the whole team, one very proud Mrs Paton.

Dynamos Cricket 🏏 competition
Monday 18th May
This year we took a Boys and Girls team to this event which was organised by Nottingham County Cricket Club.
The rules of Dynamos cricket are very simple, 8 per team, everyone has to bowl one over. Everyone has to bat with a partner for 2 overs. If you bowl a wide or a no ball then the opposition get 2 runs and a free hit.
If you lose a wicket then your team is deducted 5 runs.
I said it was simple!
Today our girls team were undefeated and they now progress to the County finals in Nottingham next term.
Our boys team lost 1 game and progressed to the final but were beaten by 41 runs and came 2nd 🥈 place.
Both Boys and Girls were great ambassadors for our school today and I am incredibly proud of them all.
Netball match V Ordsall
Wednesday 6th May
What a really good game this was today and with no after school club or practice the girls were amazing. Most of them had played before and those that hadn’t soon picked things up regarding positioning and marking. Both Phoebe and Eva were superb in defence and Phoebe was awarded best player by their teachers. Well done e Phoebe 👏 Daisy B was centre and worked incredibly hard getting up and down the court. Lauren was GA and her energy levels throughout were brilliant. Daisy B got better and better as the game went on in WA and both Seren and Alana supported Lauren as GS. Maisie and Sophia both making debuts for the team took on the role of WD and again grew with confidence as the game progressed. The final score was 3-2 win to us. Well done Girls, all of you were great ambassadors for our school tonight.
Quad Kids Competition
Friday 1st May
This year we only entered 1 team into the competition, this consisted of 5 girls and 5 boys. They all had to run 400 m, throw a howler, run a 75m sprint and do standing long jump.
All our pupils did really well in their events and we had a few first places too. Special mention must go to Freddie O who scored an amazing 39m in the howler throw.
Well done 👏 to all our pupils that represented school today. We came 2nd 🥈 place overall.
KS1 MultiSkills Festival
Wednesday 29th April
Today we took a group of KS1 pupils to this event which was hosted by Retford Oaks this year.
All Bassetlaw schools were invited to participate and the Sports Crews from each school delivered all the different activities.
These were all really well organised by all the different crews. Our school delivered Tri ⛳️ golf and orienteering and our Sports Crews were absolutely amazing.
Bassetlaw schools Boccia competition
Friday 24th April
This year we entered 2 teams into this competition as we have a large number of pupils who take part in the intervention programme every week.
Altogether there were 11 schools and 12 teams that took part. Everyone played each other and therefore played 11 games each. Both our teams did incredibly well and came away with Gold 🥇 medals and 🥉 bronze medals.
well done and congratulations to all of our players.
Boys league game V Priory
Last game if the season for our boys team and all to play for in the league. Had a great run this second half of the season with 1draw and 2 wins and currently top of the league.
Another great performance tonight, Owen was striker and scored 4 goals, 1 each for Freddy and Archie and an own goal. Final score was 7-1 to SHA.
Boys league game V Bracken lane
Wednesday 11th March
Tougher opposition today but another really good game of football. Jasper had a great chance in the first half and some great build up play from Oscar, Yones and Archie. Half time was 0-0.
In the 2nd half Yones scored a great goal and we were denied another after a brilliant double save by their keeper. Kayson also had a chance cutting in from the left and denied by their keeper.
They equalised after we gave away a silly free kick and nearly took the lead after a great shot was saved by Archie D.
He then made an amazing double save after a corner and then a poor clearance from us allowed them to shoot, Archie pushed it out and then he made a save after they tried to hit the rebound into the net.
Final score was 1-1 and on reflection a really good result.
Boys league match V St Augustine’s
Tuesday 10th March
A fantastic team performance from our Boys tonight. From the kick off they battled hard and were able to win the ball with ease. Within minutes we were 1-0 up after Archie won the ball on the right and cut in and fired a great shot into the net. Yones then scored a brace, great build up work from Owen, Jasper and Archie assisting.
Freddy scored a screamer of a shot after the ball rebounded out from a corner and Archie and Yones both ended up with hat tricks. Owen also managed to get on the score sheet with a brilliant volley.
Great performance from Harbour, Gerard, Joseph and Joe at the back too.
Tag rugby 🏉 festival
Wednesday 4th March
Today we took 15 pupils from year 4 to a tag rugby festival at Retford Oaks. There were 12 schools in total and each school rotated around the different activities that were set out by the young Oaks leaders.
These included throwing, catching, tagging, kicking and a few games.
All the children were a pleasure to take and were great ambassadors for our school.
Boys match V Redlands
Friday 27th February
Another opportunity for some of our boys to represent school for the first time. We try to give as many boys as possible the chance to play and with us being such a large school it is sometimes difficult. Therefore we really appreciate the connection and support from our friends at Redlands who are always happy to play against us.
Tonight we came out on top with goals from Yones, Owen, Joseph, Freddy and Joe.
Teamwork, respect and hard work paid off tonight.
Football match V Redlands
11th February
Tonight we played a friendly against Redlands as a warm up to the next lot of league matches.
Also today was an opportunity for some boys to represent school for the first time.
We took an early lead through an Archie B goal but it was beautifully set up for him by Oscar S.
We then conceded after a silly foul and the free kick was awarded to Redlands. This was a perfect kick and Archie had no chance in goal. In the 2nd half we conceded 3 more goals and final score was 4-1 to Redlands.
Bassetlaw schools Table Tennis 🏓 Competition
Thursday 5th February
This is the 2nd year we have entered this competition after having the Blitz table tennis coach in to run an after school club. Each player had to compete against others to gain an overall ranking. When they weren’t playing they had to score so no one was sat waiting to play and were fully engaged for 3 hours.
Since joining forces with Paul Johnson the coach we have seen 3 of our pupils follow the table tennis pathway and now compete locally and nationally for blitz club in tournaments and competitions.
This is why we try to deliver a variety of different kinds of sports and have so many club links.
Daniel came 🥇 place overall winning his final match 11- 9. Congratulations to him and all our players who showed true school games values throughout the competition. Honesty, respect, integrity, self belief, determination and teamwork.
SEND MultiSkills festival
Friday 9th January

Sports Hall Athletics competition
Friday 16th January
Once again we took a team of year 5&6 to this competition which was organised by our SGO at Retford Oaks.
The team consisted of 6 boys and 6 girls and each of them then split into 2 groups. One group all did vertical jump, triple jump and javelin throw while the other group did speed bounce, standing long jump and chest push.
Once all the field events had taken place it was then time for the races. They were 1 person x 1 lap , 1 person x 2 laps to start with. Next was 2 x 1 lap and 2x 2 laps. Each race was girls first then boys.
Last two events were 3 x 1 lap obstacle and 3 x 1 lap sprint.
We actually won every race in our group against St John’s and Priory but there were 2 other heats and it goes on fastest time.
Altogether 21 schools from Bassetlaw took part, 12 in the morning and 9 in the afternoon.
Our pupils were great ambassadors for our school, well done to all of them.
