The World of Work

We are proud of our World of Work scheme for pupils in Years 5 and 6. Pupils apply for, are interviewed for and are appointed to real, paid jobs in school, just as they would in the adult world. Every job matters: our pupils read with younger children, care for our school environment, run our library, broadcast on our school radio and lead sport and play.

  • Y5 and Y6pupils can apply
  • 50per role for a full year
  • 2jobs a year maximum

What we expect

A job is a commitment. Pupils are trained for their role and, where it is needed, given the right uniform: our Young Farmers, for example, wear wellies and overalls. In return, we expect every pupil to:

  • Turn upBe there when they are needed, all year round.
  • Do the jobCarry out the role they have been trained to do.
  • Show respectTreat everyone they work with and for with respect.
  • Keep it upPupils who manage this for the whole year are paid for each role.

Follow the money

Just like adult jobs, pupils' earnings are taxed. The money raised is put to work for our pupils, and the pupils themselves have a say in how it is spent.
