Autumn 1: All About Me & Harvest

Our adventures: pumpkin picking at Eastfield Farm · our Harvest market
OUR BIG QUESTION
Who am I, and are we all the same?

This is me!

I am special. I know the names for my face and body: eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hair, hands and feet.

hair eye ear nose mouth

Family & friends

My family: mum, dad, brother, sister, grandma, grandad. Friends are kind, share and take turns. We are the same in some ways and different in others.

Our stories

• Goldilocks and the Three Bears
• Farmer Duck
• The Enormous Turnip
• The Lion Inside

I can retell Goldilocks: big, middle-sized and small!

Our trips

We pick pumpkins at Eastfield Farm. We sing our harvest songs and share food at our Harvest market.

My sounds

I say the sound for each letter. I blend the sounds to read a word.

Books & my name

A book has a front cover, a title and an author. We read from left to right. My name starts with a capital letter.

Title by the author left right

Counting to 5

The last number I say tells me how many. I can see 1, 2 or 3 without counting!

1 2 3 4 5

Sort & compare

I can match and sort things. I can compare size, length, weight and how much a cup holds.

big · small long · short heavy · light full · empty

Autumn & harvest

Autumn is a season. The seasons change. Food grows on a farm and is gathered in at harvest time.

How a pumpkin grows

A pumpkin grows from a tiny seed!

seed sprout flower pumpkin

Art & music

A self-portrait is a picture of me. I mix paint to match my hair and eyes. I keep a steady beat, like a heartbeat.

Strong & ready

I sit up tall. I use scissors safely. I put on my own coat and shoes. I line up and wait my turn.

My new words

same – just like each other
different – not the same
harvest – when farmers gather food
season – spring, summer, autumn, winter
seed – a plant grows from it
sort – put things into groups

Autumn 2: Christmas & Festivals

Our adventures: a visit to Clumber Park · our Nativity performance
OUR BIG QUESTION
What do we celebrate, and why do people celebrate in different ways?

Bonfire Night

On 5th November we see fireworks light up the sky. We stay safe and stand well back from bonfires.

Diwali

Diwali is the festival of light. Families light little diya lamps and make bright rangoli patterns.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a time to think about others. We wear a poppy and stay quiet to remember.

Christmas

Christians celebrate Christmas because they believe it is when baby Jesus was born. Celebrations bring families together.

The Nativity story – in order

Characters: Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the angel, the shepherds and the wise men.

1
Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem.
2
There is no room at the inn.
3
Baby Jesus is born in a stable.
4
An angel tells the shepherds.
5
The wise men follow the star with gifts.

Blending to read

Some sounds use two letters. I blend sounds to read short words.

Tricky words & books

Tricky words I know by sight. Non-fiction books give us information.

the to I no go

More or fewer?

I know the numbers 1 to 5 and match them to an amount. I can say which group has more and which has fewer.

4 more 2 fewer

Shapes & patterns

A circle is round with no corners. A triangle has 3 straight sides and 3 corners. What comes next?

circle triangle corners sides ?

Winter & letters

Some animals, like hedgehogs, hibernate in winter. A letter is posted and the postal service delivers it.

Make, move & perform

I join fabric with a running stitch. I sing our Nativity songs for an audience. I stop and start on a signal.
