We use a topic based approach in order to teach all of the objectives outlined in the New National Curriculum 2014. Our main aim is to deliver an exciting and inspiring curriculum in which all children are motivated to learn. The KS1 curriculum is planned in a progressive manner over a two year cycle.
Reading and Spelling
Each child receives a daily differentiated phonics and spelling programme for at least 20 minutes each day. This is based upon a number of schemes including the dfe Letters and Sounds Programme, (2007) and Read, Write Inc. The children are given the opportunity to practise and apply the reading and spelling rules that they have been taught within all subject areas using a cross curricular approach.
We use the Abacus Maths Scheme as a framework for our numeracy teaching to ensure effective coverage of the National Curriculum. The children are assessed daily ensuring that their work is closely matched to their individual needs. We aim to deliver an interesting and relevant curriculum that is linked to their topic work wherever possible.
The children have the opportunity to use a range of ICT at school and at home to enhance their learning. We have subscribed to a range of quality websites such as Abacus Maths, Grammar and Phonics Bug, Bug Club reading scheme and Education City. Your child has been given a unique password so that they can access these sites at home and at school. We encourage you to use these with your child at home. Please see your child's teacher if you are struggling to access the sites.
